Week 9: Conflict Communication

To Address or Avoid?

Discussion Prompt

Some say all conflicts should be addressed directly, while others argue some conflicts are better left alone. Based on this week's content, when do you think conflict should be addressed and when might avoiding be the right choice? Share a specific example where you chose to address a conflict or chose to avoid it. In hindsight, was that the right decision? What factors helped you (or should have helped you) decide?

Response Guidelines

  • Take a clear position supported by concepts from the reading
  • Use a specific example from your experience (protecting others' privacy)
  • Consider the relationship, the stakes, and the likelihood of resolution
  • When responding to classmates, engage with their reasoning, not just their conclusion
  • Acknowledge that reasonable people may disagree on this issue
